The Mount Barker Community College P & C meets in the staffroom every fourth Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm. The P & C meeting provides an important forum for a two-way flow of information between the college and parents. The role of our P & C is to develop strong partnerships between parents and the college, to support parenting and to fundraising to extend the curriculum and improve the college environment for all.
P&C provide an important service in running the College Canteen and supporting School-Based Traineeships for students to achieve Hospitality certificates.

Introducing the Executive Committee
President – Caroline Bedford
I am involved in the College through two different roles. As a parent having a son in year 5 as well as in a professional capacity as an outside education support service. I have been actively involved with the P&C since my son began at the College in Kindy. I have worked in a range of different roles over the years, beginning with secretary of the KP sub committee as well as class liaison, also for the KP sub committee. In recent years I have led the fundraising sub committee before taking on the role of President in 2018.
Vice president – Jane Beck
By way of introduction, my name is Jane Beck. I joined the Mount Barker community almost a decade ago and married Wesley Beck, a secondary teacher at the college. Together we have two children, Felicity in year two and Matthew in Pre-primary. I have a background in IT Security and as a PA with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Since moving to Mount Barker I have become involved in the community with Plantagenet Players, Playgroup, St John Ambulance and the early childhood P&C. I enjoy sewing, cooking and various crafts and am currently studying Dip Nursing full time in Albany.
I’m a keen supporter of our College and in pursuing great outcomes for staff and students. I believe in a holistic approach to education including literacy, numeracy, mental health, social and life skills for both our children and future generations. Secretary – Lisa Lynch
I live and work on a family farm together with my husband and our two sons, both who are in primary school, attend the College.
I have been actively involved in the school community volunteering to do parent help and supporting the P&C through working in the canteen and supporting fundraising events since our eldest child started kindy. In that time I’ve held numerous roles including class representative and president of the Early Childhood Sub Committee, member of the Fundraising and Dyslexia Assist Committees and am currently the Secretary of the main P&C.
I have a strong desire to support our children’s education and through my involvement with the P&C I am able to connect with staff, students, families and friends of the College to make a valued contribution to the school community. Through my involvement with P&C I’ve met new people, some whom I’m proud to call friends and I get a great sense of satisfaction from seeing the difference the extra resources and programs P&C provides to the learning opportunities available to all students at the College. I look forward to another successful P&C year in 2018 and extend a warm welcome to anyone who is considering joining to get involved.
Treasurer – Deb Murphy
Involvement with the P&C is significant way of showing your children that you are committed to their education. Commitment to education is one of the reasons of why we chose as a family to relocate to Mount Barker and the facilities the college offered was a key part of our decision. Regular contact with the college through my role as treasurer keeps the lines of communication open, so important especially with secondary students where parent involvement tends to drop off. Additionally input into how the P&C can allocate funds to support current and future students whilst improving the college’s facilities is the most rewarding part of being an active P&C member. Recently we have had few new faces at our meetings which are so welcome, so if you are reading this please consider coming along!

The P&C have been able to assist the school in funding part of the cost of new lockers for the senior school.
The P&C continues to invest in Phonic reading books for use at home and with guided reading throughout K-6
