The Frances Wright Library

The Frances Wright Library was opened in August 2008 after the amalgamation of the two schools and is named after a long serving staff member who taught at the original Primary School.

Hours of opening: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 3:30pm.

You can browse the range of resources available in our library from home on Oliver, the library catalogue. Our Library Officer is also available during open hours for recommendations, assistance, or requests.

The library is open to students and staff for book borrowing, computer access, private study, video conferencing, SIDE lessons, High School Macqlit lessons and an opportunity to converse quietly with friends. There are several rooms available for staff to book, including a Seminar Room and a Classroom that both Primary and Secondary staff utilise regularly.

We have a dedicated full-time Library Officer who is available to assist with book selection, loans, room bookings and general inquiries. The IT Department has its place here, and we have a teacher-in-residence who supports and guides our SIDE students through the challenge of learning outside the classroom. They also cover most of the lunchtime supervision.

The layout of the library offers several private study areas for quiet study, general discussions and informal meetings. We have also created dedicated areas for different year groups! There is a Young Adult area, for our high school students – where primary students are not allowed to enter, a Junior Primary area designed especially for our E Block students, and we are in the process of creating an Upper Primary area, specifically for our M Block kids, using their ideas and suggestions for furnishings and features.

There are games, activities and colouring at lunch time, but we are also open for students to just meet and socialise. The library hosts Book Fairs, Staff Meetings, Homework Classes and P&C events. The library is the only place in the entire College where Primary and Secondary students regularly come together and we are enthusiastic to continue fostering that strong sense of community.

We aim to create a comfortable, mostly quiet space for staff and students. We are here to support our colleagues and our students in their studies and in the day to day. We believe the library to be the heart of the school and we hope others see it that way too.

Ordering Personal Books Through The Library

Book Club offers an exciting way to engage students with reading by purchasing their own books at an affordable price that also benefits the school. Each purchase made from Scholastic enables us to obtain more resources for the library, so it benefits all students. Book Club catalogues will be sent home several times a year, and orders are made by signing up with the Scholastic Book Club Loop app. Please note, the college no longer accepts cash on behalf of Scholastic – all orders must be completed online through Loop..

The library also hosts Book Fairs throughout the year. This is always an exciting time with students visiting the library and writing wish-lists of all the books they’d like to read. Book Fairs have a great assortment of items available, with something for every reader. We welcome parents and families at any time during open hours during Book Fair.
