Year 11 Subject Selection
Choosing subjects for Years 11 and 12 is an exciting step towards your future. Whether you’re planning for university, TAFE, an apprenticeship or entering the workforce, the choices you make now will help shape your pathway beyond school.
At Mount Barker Community College, we support every student to choose a program that matches their interests, strengths and future goals.
Year 11 Student Handbook
Our Year 11 Student Handbook is the key resource for planning your senior school pathway. It includes information about:
- ATAR, General and VET pathways
- WACE requirements
- University, TAFE and apprenticeship options
- Course descriptions
- Certificate and Workplace Learning opportunities
- Subject selection timelines and important dates
- How to complete your selections using Subject Selection Online (SSO)
We encourage all students and families to read the handbook carefully before making subject selections and to discuss future goals together.
Subject Selection Online (SSO)
Mount Barker Community College uses Subject Selection Online (SSO) to collect Year 11 course preferences. SSO allows students to submit their preferred subjects, nominate reserve choices and book course counselling appointments during the selection process.
Before submitting your selections, make sure you have:
- Read the Year 11 Student Handbook.
- Discussed your options with your parents or carers.
- Considered your future study, training and career goals.
- Spoken with teachers or school staff if you need advice.
SSO also checks subject prerequisites and alerts students if further discussion with the school is recommended before finalising selections.
